Overview
Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial infection causing meningitis and blood poisoning. Vaccination against strains A, C, W and Y is required for entry to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage.
Who needs it
Hajj/Umrah pilgrims, travellers to the African meningitis belt, and students travelling abroad.
Dosing schedule
Single dose, at least 10 days before travel. Certificate valid for 3–5 years.
Common side effects
Sore arm, headache, tiredness.
